ANGEL Nr. 1 - Nr. 10

This is the first Angel album, which was recorded in Berlin in 2000 at their second ever live appearance, curated by amSTARt as an audio-visual performance in conjunction with video works by Videogeist, and was originally released as a CD by BiP_HOp in 2002. It features improvisations by Ilpo Väisänen on typewriter, effects, and CD player and Dirk Dresselhaus on electric guitar, effects, and tube amp.

Original album release info (2002):

Ilpo Väisänen, born 1963 in Kuopio (Finland), worked with Ultra 3, Sinø and Pan sonic (latest releases: Piiri, Liimas, Joulu) met Dirk Dresselhaus, born 1970 in Bielefeld (Germany), whilst his project SchneiderTM (latest releases: Binokular (w/ Kptmichigan), Zoomer, Reconfigures), was supporting Pan sonic on their European tour in 1999.
Since then they have played one show a year and became something you could call ‘soulbrothers‘.
In late 2002 they released their first untitled album on the french label Bip_Hop, which is based on a live-performance from 2000 in Berlin.
The Angel-Sound is mainly about noise, made with the help of ilpo's selfmade synthesizer (typewriter), prepared rhythms and fieldrecordings, dubbed and stretched to their outer limits and Dirk's rather fucked up, feedback driven guitar-style.
Angel is about direct communication, listening to what the other one does and reacting to it, rather than ‘brain‘- music, which is supposed to be intellectual or cool in attitude.
Sometimes this music could seem so grown up, so selfpossessed and assured. But sitting on their laps with its head resting lightly against their chests, it feels like no weight at all.
As though it is still a baby, with all it’s life still stretching out ahead of it, a life still waiting to find it’s shape.
It stirred in it’s sleep as they heard an ice-cream van ringing it’s bell somewhere in the endless streets of berlin or barcelona.
More than any birdsong or blooming bud, this is the sign that the days of cold and dark are finally drawing to a close.
Spring must be coming soon, because the ding-dong man is out there somewhere.

die ANGEL (2022)

What was thought of as one-off noise improv concert in 1999 in Berlin, continues to unfold:

die ANGEL (or just ANGEL in the early days), the duo project of Ilpo Väisänen (ex-Pan sonic) & Dirk Dresselhaus aka Schneider TM, was born in 1999 during a joint European tour of Pan sonic and Schneider TM with the aim to (exclusively!) improvise with electronics, string instruments and effect loops to develop a sonic world that goes beyond fixed structures and clearly defined genres.
Coming from different musical backgrounds proved quite an advantage for the duo as it meant that they had to find their particular modus operandi: communication through noise and action, instant composition, spirit.
Over the course of over 2 decades now, die ANGEL crafted a catalogue of 11 albums released on labels like Editions Mego, Edition Telemark, Erototox Decodings or Karlrecords that were studio- or live-recordings of either the core duo or featured like-minded artists like cellist Hildur Gudnadottir, Oren Ambarchi, Lucio Capece, BJ Nilsen or Faust drummer Werner “Zappi“ Diermaier and played numerous international headlining shows and festivals.
die ANGEL delve deep into the microcosms of tones, shaping nuanced layers of abstract sound that integrate elements of Musique Concrète, Minimal Music, Industrial, Noise, Blues and Psychedelia, and yet bear the unmistakable die ANGEL signature.
